How do I measure my crib for correct crib mattress size?
Crib dimensions are dictated by ASTM and Federal Law and must have INTERIOR dimensions of 28″ x 52 3/8″ (plus or minus 5/8″ wide and plus or minus 5/8″ long). The inside of your crib should measure between 27 3/8″ — 28 5/8″ wide and 51 ¾” — 53″ long. Mattresses are designed to be slightly smaller to allow them to fit within these tolerances. <link to standard crib mattress size>.
What is a toddler mattress vs a crib mattress?
A toddler bed mattress has same dimensions as a crib mattress but different mattress firmness. Infants need a firm crib mattress to help reduce the risk of SIDs and provide a safe sleep environment. A toddler mattress is softer (but still firm) since the toddler is able to freely roll around and reposition their head while sleeping.

Do your crib mattresses contain flame retardants?
The safety of your baby is our top priority. We consider what goes on the inside and outside of your crib mattress very carefully. The majority of our crib mattresses pass all state and federal flammability standards without the use of any fire or flame retardants.
A small portion of crib mattresses use a natural cotton-based protective wrap on the inside of the mattress to pass strict flammability tests. Fortunately, each and every crib mattress we manufacture is GREENGUARD GOLD certified so it has been tested for chemical content and emissions so it is safe for babies and toddlers.
What is GREENGUARD® Certified vs GREENGUARD® GOLD Certified?

Is my crib mattress waterproof?
Babies have accidents so parents need a waterproof crib mattress for health and comfort reasons. All of our crib mattresses are made with waterproof covers.
Laminate covers are inherently waterproof and fabric covers come with additional non-toxic waterproofing to help ensure they are easy-clean and do not trap liquids, which can cause mold or germs. Our cotton covered crib mattresses use a water and stain resistant top coating plus a full waterproof and allergy barrier backing so liquids won’t seep inside.
What is soybean foam or soy foam?
Soybean foam is a high-density polyurethane foam enhanced with natural soybean oils. Our soybean foam has won environmental and engineering awards and is CertiPur-US Certified for durability, indoor air quality, and tested for safe use with infants. It allows consumers to choose a greener foam option without sacrificing any quality.
What materials are used in a foam crib mattress?
All high density foams on the market are made of polyurethane foam. We use a percentage of natural soy oils in our foam to create a more natural foam versus using 100% petroleum based foam.
Look for polyurethane foam with CertiPUR-US® Certified foam. This certification means the foam crib mattress has been tested for durability and they are free of harmful chemicals.
Other all foam crib mattresses include materials like polyethylene cores. A two-stage foam crib and toddler mattress will use a softer material on the toddler side, like a cool gel foam or memory foam.
All of our crib and toddler mattresses are GREENGUARD GOLD certified so they do not emit harmful toxins.
What's the difference between a foam and coil crib mattress?
Coil (or innerspring) crib and toddler mattresses have inner coils made of steel which means the mattress bounces back quickly. The higher coil count, the firmer the mattress. Coil mattresses are popular because the steel coils last a lifetime.
The most popular foam crib mattresses are made of high-density polyurethane foam. Look for polyurethane foam with CertiPUR-US® Certified foam for durability and safety. Foam mattresses are popular because they are lighter than coil and many offer two foam densities, a firmer side for infants and a softer side for toddlers.

2-sided crib mattress - when to flip to softer side?
Each child is different but most babies are ready for the softer (but still firm) toddler mattress side at about 12 months. Be sure to check with your pediatrician before adding any soft bedding to your baby’s sleep environment.

Does Sealy Baby make a breathable crib mattress?
Despite claims about crib mattresses on the market being breathable, no product or baby mattress prevents SIDS or suffocation. Breathability claims from some baby mattress manufacturers are not proven with scientific evidence or laboratory tests. Only safe sleep practices can help reduce the risk of SIDS.
Sealy Baby offers many baby and toddler mattresses with cotton or bamboo rayon fabrics and mesh materials, these are more breathable on baby’s skin than laminate or vinyl materials.
When do I make the big kid bed transition?
Each child will be different, but most transition from the crib to a big kid bed (or toddler bed) between 18 months and 3 years of age. Sometimes it’s because a new sibling is on the way or they’ve outgrown their crib, maybe your child has expressed an interest in moving to a ‘big kid’ bed. If you purchased a 2-stage mattress and haven’t yet flipped it, moving to the toddler bed is certainly the time to use the softer (but still firm) toddler side.
How do I create a space that provides safe sleep for babies?
There are many factors that go into a safe sleep environment for babies and infants. Some of the most important considerations are keeping the crib free of soft bedding, bumpers, stuffed animals, or other suffocation risks. Place the crib away from windows with blinds with strings or other decorations that have cords that can entangle the baby. Always place the baby on their back. If you have questions or concerns, always ask your pediatrician.

Traditional encasement will often have a waterproof barrier for moisture protection. Sealy Baby crib and toddler mattress encasements feature a premium, tightly woven fabric that offers protection from household allergens and asthma instigators and it has been lab tested for protection against bed bugs.
A traditional crib mattress pad is designed to add additional comfort and coziness in baby’s bed, with many offering added waterproof protection. Unlike encasements, crib mattress protector pads do not fully encase baby’s mattress, however most, including those made by Sealy Baby, feature a fitted stretch skirt that wraps underneath crib mattresses for a snug, secure fit.
Parents and caregivers can use an encasement and mattress pad together to give baby’s bed the ultimate protection. The encasement goes on the mattress first as the bottom layer, followed by a crib mattress pad for extra comfort and moisture protection, with baby’s fitted crib sheet on top.
